Mind-Blowing 'Avatar' Footage Screened in Amsterdam (CinemaExpo)

Quotes:

"Overall I was really impressed by what I saw. The effects are in a league of their own." ... "It took my breath away. I thought–just like you guys–that I've seen it all with Gollum, or The Hulk, but Cameron has done it again. These creatures seem so real, that within minutes you forget you're watching an enormous and very blue CGI character. Even the eyes are totally convincing. The characters have real personalities and a soul." -- Coming Soon

"The audience afterwards was stunned. Everyone just gasped, wondered and just couldnt believe what they saw." ... "Until now, all we saw was the base in 3D, mostly humans and now the 2 N'avi Avatars. They look NOTHING like the drawing you've seen. They're living creatures with blue skin, bigger yellow eyes than humans with tails. The avatars even look like their human connectors. You will NOT believe the detail." ..."
The world outside is amazing. It all lives, breathes and works." -- MarketSaw

"It makes me want to create a time machine like Cartman from South Park, so that I don't have to wait till the 18th of December to watch the finished movie. If it's anything like the scenes I saw, it's going to be one of the best movies of the decade." -- IESB

Interview: Harold Ramis

Below, there's an interesting excerpt from a recent interview, which Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, Analyze this, Ghostbusters, this year's Year One) gave to Cinematical.

I've read in interviews that you have a screenplay kicking around about your work in a psych ward, and I'm really interested to hear about some of your darker ideas for movies.

Ramis: Yeah, that's one of them. That one is... No one likes existential comedy. People like a nice happy ending, and I didn't have any happy endings for my psych ward experience. The movie was really about suffering on three levels. I was doing that job while the Vietnam War was raging, and I had gotten involved with my first wife at that time who was really -- she suffered deeply, both personally and for the world. She had a great kind of, I heard the phrase once, "altruistic panic." People who are so distressed with the human condition that it puts them in a frenzy or makes them terribly sad. So there was the global suffering represented by the war, and then the suffering of these patients that I had to deal with eight hours a day or more, sometimes two shifts. And I was put on suicide prevention one on one with people who had made sincere attempts, and spending eight hours a day protecting someone's life, you know, you can't not talk to them. And I'm not a therapist; I was 21 years old, 22, trying to tell them why they should live from my point of view, from the perspective of a 22-year-old. It's ridiculous. I had nothing but platitudes and false hope and no real help.

And it sounds like a movie, but the woman I spent the most time with was beautiful and in her later 20's, had a child, and seemingly everything to live for, but she kept making attempts and then wanted me to get more personally involved in her life. And that's where the screenplay went.

What would happen in the third season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Producer James Middleton talked to scifiwire about the series finale, and about possible developments in the third season of the show (if it was renewed).

One theory about the ending is that by leaping to the future, John Connor never grew up to become the leader of the human resistance. That would free him of the burden of saving humanity.

“I think that that’s the right interpretation, because in the actual footage of the show, we see that Derek doesn’t recognize him,” Middleton said. “So, by jumping into this future, he has erased his existence in a certain way, and we see that. We see that nobody recognizes him.”

Middleton added that leaping to the future changes John Connor’s fate. “We would have to have explored that if we did get a third season,” he said. “If we had gotten a third season, I should say, we definitely would have explored what it all meant, but I think there’s a great moment where we see Allison [Summer Glau], and John’s look to her is very meaningful. I think that also would have been a great thing in terms of dramatic potential.

Marvel movie slate update

Release schedule: Iron Man 2 in May 2010, Thor in May 2011, and The First Avenger: Captain America in July 2011, The Avengers in Summer 2012.

Tidbits of information (provided by Kevin Feige, Marvel's president of production, in an industry conference) on the upcoming projects:

*Iron Man 2: The goal is to carry over the humor and tone of the first film, while adding more characters and upping the action. Scarlett Johannson's character has "two sides," and the actress is signed for multiple movies.

*Thor: No Shakespearean dialogue (per Kenneth Branagh's wishes)! No Don Blake! Primarily set on Earth (though also on Asgard and "other worlds")! How exactly is that going to work? No idea!

*The First Avenger: Captain America: Will be "primarily" set during World War II. With Joe Johnston at the helm, Feige described the picture in terms of the director / visual effects designer's past work (The Rocketeer, October Sky, Star Wars). Sidekick Bucky will appear "in some capacity."

*The Avengers: Captain America will be involved in the plot "from the get go."

*Ant-Man: Edgar Wright will be submitting another draft after he completes Scott Pilgrim.

Feige also revealed that another new Marvel movie will be released in 2012.

'The Shield' movie?

In case you haven't heard, there are rumours about a possible 'Shield' movie, if there is popular demand.I think that's not a good idea.I mean, after a great final season and a great series finale, there is no point for such a move.I don't know, maybe the story could be great, but, given how the show ended, it would be better, if these plans didn't materialize.
