First photo: Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in 'Iron Man 2', and new info

From this week's issue of Entertaiment Weekly:
- Sam Rockwell plays a fast-talking weapons manufacturer named Justin Hammer, “who fancies himself the next Tony Stark”
- Mickey Rourke plays Russian criminal Vanko, who creates his own battle-suit while incarcerated in a Soviet prison.
- Whiplash’s suit “shoots devastating, whip-like beams.”

Robert Downey Jr.: 'Iron Man 2 Incredibly Risky'
From Collider.com
"(Iron Man 2 is) incredibly risky and artistic for a big genre movie."
"The set pieces have to do with things that aren't your typical bad guy conflict. The relationships are very complex and hilarious."
"The motivations Tony has and why he turns around and does things has completely to do with his own internal processes... we're kind of trying to tell a story about how a dysfunctional family saves life on Earth as we know it."
Robert Downey Jr. said that he's taking the movie more seriously than any other movie he's ever done, and also that Gary Shandling has joined the cast to play a Senator.

Three days ago Iron Man 2 began filming and the first set photos were posted on the internet.According to IESB ,on set was veteran actor Garry Shandling. The site reports that Shandling is a Senator that appears in a continuation of the final scene from the first IRON MAN film.
Robert Downey Jr. confirmed ( to the MTV Splash Page) that Demon in a Bottle won't be the storyline of the sequel."As a matter of fact, I think that's probably best saved because it's such its own storyline. We're going for the interim space [between the origin and Demon] which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he's Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero."Last week,Downey spoke to Entertainment Tonight:"(Iron Man 2) is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it's going to be nuts. ... Essentially Iron Man 2 is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It's one thing to say you're Iron Man, it's another thing to be fully ready to do that."
He added that he's been rehearsing with co-star Scarlett Johansson, who plays the Black Widow, and says that "she's in insane shape. She's getting lean and mean."
In other news,Tim Robbins refuted the rumour ( to ReelTalk) that he'll play Howard Stark.
It was rumoured that Gary Oldman will play the role, but that rumour was denied by the actor's manager.

Iron Man 2: Scarlett Johansson to replace Emily Blunt ?

By Nicole Sperling,hollywoodinsider.ew.com
February 13,2009
Because Emily Blunt's commitment to Twentieth Century Fox and the studio's upcoming Gulliver's Travels movie may prohibit her from costarring in Iron Man 2, Marvel is in discussions with other actresses, most significantly Scarlett Johansson, to take her place, EW has learned exclusively. Marvel will not confirm, but sources around Hollywood say Johansson has indeed met with the filmmakers and is interested in taking the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, who doubles as Black Widow. Blunt's reps are still trying to make both projects work, but Gulliver's is further along, with a start date of April 15. Iron Man 2 still doesn't have a shooting script and a start date has not yet been determined.

Iron Man 2-Emily Blunt to be Black Widow?

By Michael Fleming,Variety
January 14,2009
With Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell negotiating to play key villains in "Iron Man 2," Marvel Entertainment and director Jon Favreau are now looking for the right thesp to play femme fatale Black Widow, another nemesis for Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.
Emily Blunt has emerged as the frontrunner to play Natasha Romanoff in the "Iron Man" sequel. She's a Soviet superspy who doubles as Black Widow, a beauty in a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weaponry.
Blunt, whose credits include "The Devil Wears Prada," "The Jane Austen Book Club" and "Charlie Wilson's War," will get a profile boost when she stars with Benicio Del Toro in the Joe Johnston-directed "The Wolf Man" for Universal.
Marvel would not comment on the Black Widow casting. The Justin Theroux-scripted "Iron Man 2" will begin production in the spring for release by Paramount in summer 2010.

Tim Robbins is Howard Stark?
By Monika Bartyzel,Cinematical
December 18,2008
Who could breed such a perfect specimen of man like Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark? He has to be a bit dashing, and just a smidge brilliant. He must be a good businessman, and a bit of an alcoholic. Plus, it would probably help to have some similar features to Downey Jr. No one would believe that Iron Man came from some nobody. So, who would you pick?
According to Latino Review, Howard Stark will be played by Tim Robbins in the sequel, because "Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn't think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene." Heck, if Terrence Howard wasn't good enough to stay on, it's no surprise that Favs would look for a bigger player to pull off important Stark family scenes. I'm not drooling over the decision, but it definitely sounds like a solid choice.
And, just to sweeten the deal even more: Rumor has it that Hawkeye and Black Widow are definitely in Iron Man 2, and not just little cameos. A tough Russian woman with flowing red hair, clad in head-to-toe black leather? That sounds like a good idea to me.
