The look of Halloween II

Excerpt from an interview with writer-director Rob Zombie.

The look of Halloween II is very different from the first one.

Well I was kinda disappointed with the look of the first one, I didn’t like it, I thought it looked too clean and it really bothered me. I like when movies look kinda dirty. I actually spent a lot of time in post trying to make it look dirtier. So this film I went back and shot it on 16mm instead of 35mm because I wanted it to look really grainy and gritty, and more real, so that when something was dirty it felt dirty. I got a different DP who works differently, we lit things with really low light, and would light the set 360 and I would shoot any direction I wanted and almost never ever moved a light, so if someone walked into the shadows, well there in the shadows, not like when everybody seems to be fully lit no matter what, and at night we would hardly light anything. Joe Dante: "I think that 3-D has a big future"

Joe Dante, director of Gremlins, The Howling, and Small Soldiers (among others)

"I think that 3-D has a big future, if the exhibitors don’t botch it up. When [James Cameron’s] AVATAR comes out, I think people will say that it looks great. But I believe that 3-D has a bigger future than that. I don’t think it should be relegated to exploitation films or science-fiction. I think that you can do interesting things with 3-D in a dramatic situation. If you look at Hitchcock’s DIAL M FOR MURDER, the drama is incredibly enhanced by the fact that it was filmed in 3-D. And the spatial relationships between the characters, adds so much to it. Sooner or later, some Ang Lee-type guy is going to make a regular movie in 3-D: one that’s not a gimmick picture or a rollercoaster ride. And the 3-D will be a part of how he’ll tell the story. And it’s going to be good.”

From an interview about his new 3-D film, 'The Hole.'

Bryan Singer returning to X-Men?

You may have read that Bryan Singer mentioned this possibility in a recent interview. Here's what i wrote on the subject (in my review of Wolverine):

"What i would want to see is X-Men 4, a true sequel to X3.The reception to The Last Stand was lukewarm and many think that the series reached its peak with X2, and so it's argued that there is no reason for another sequel and if there was possibility for such a movie, new contracts with the actors and actresses would be needed, which means new negotiations and maybe higher cost. However, i would like to see, after some spin-offs, a true X-Men sequel, ideally with most of the cast and Bryan Singer returning.I think that there many good stories that deserve to be told.I know that it's probably not going to happen, though you can never be certain for anything." Michael Jackson-Thriller: The Music Videos

"At some point,'Thriller' stopped selling like a leisure item-like a magazine, a toy, tickets to a hit movie-and started selling like a household staple." -J.Randy Taraborelli (Michael Jackson biographer)

Billie Jean
(
Written, arranged and composed by Michael Jackson, Produced by Quincy Jones)

"A lean, insistent funk number whose message couldn't be more blunt: 'She says I am the one/But the kid is not my son.A sad, almost mournful song, but a thumping resolve underlies his [Jackson's] feelings" Christopher Connelly-Rolling Stone

Beat It

"Jackson's voice soars all over the melody, Eddie Van Halen checks in with a blistering guitar solo, you could build a convention center on the backbeat" Christopher Connelly-Rolling Stone

Thriller

"Well, it was a delicate thing to work on because I remember my original approach was, 'How do you make zombies and monsters dance without it being comical?' So I said, 'We have to do just the right kind of movement so it doesn't become something that you laugh at.' But it just has to take it to another level. So I got in a room with [choreographer] Michael Peters, and he and I together kind of imagined how these zombies move by making faces in the mirror. I used to come to rehearsal sometimes with monster makeup on, and I loved doing that. So he and I collaborated and we both choreographed the piece and I thought it should start like that kind of thing and go into this jazzy kind of step, you know. Kind of gruesome things like that, not too much ballet or whatever" -Michael Jackson talking about the music video

Billie Jean-Motown 25

"It was a moment that crossed over in a way that no live musical performance ever had. There was a messianic quality to it" Steve Daly-Entertainment Weekly
