Knowing Review

Knowing is a sci-fi thriller, directed by Alex Proyas, starring Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne. While the premise isn’t so original,it’s interesting. The movie takes some time to gear up but after some point drops the ball.I can’t say that I’m irritated by the development of the story, but I can’t say that I like it.Maybe I expected something different.Anyway,I think that the main flaw of the movie is obviously the screenplay.

The performances are decent.Alex Proyas is a skilled director, something that’s evident from his previous work and that’s also evident in Knowing. There are some really intense and visually impressive scenes (the visual effects team and the director of photography have done very good work).
Knowing, while it’s a decent movie,it seems that there was potential, which was wasted. Read more!

Damages casting news

Mario Van Peebles will return to FX's Damages for six episodes, reprising his role as Agent Harrison. He was briefly seen as the FBI agent who approaches Ellen about going after Patty Hewes (Glenn Close). Indications are that Ellen will work with the Feds in some way, because Patty has definitely crossed the lines of legality -- and morality -- multiple times. Agent Harrison only cares about the former.
In other casting news,Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden will be a regular on the second season of Damages.

Timothy Olyphant joins Damages

By Jonathan Toomey,Tv Squad
June 25,2008
It was announced today that former Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant has joined the season two cast of FX's Damages in a season-long arc. This marks Olyphant's first credited TV cast role since the HBO drama went off the air over two years ago.

Olyphant, who will star with returning cast Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, and Tate Donovan, marks the second addition to the FX drama in just over a week. William Hurt joined the show last Monday.

Olyphant's character will become involved in the life of Ellen Parsons (Byrne) as she deals with her fiancé David's murder and the FBI case being mounted against her boss, Patty Hewes (Close). Hurt will play a new client of Hewes.

Season two of Damages went in to production in New York City yesterday and the show returns to FX in early 2009, likely after The Shield's seventh and final season has concluded.

William Hurt joins Damages

By Jonathan Toomey,Tv Squad
June 16
FX announced that William Hurt has joined the season two cast of Damages. He'll play a new client of Glenn Close's Patty Hewes. No further description of his character was given, but the possibility of a professional and personal relationship with Hewes was hinted at.

This will mark the first time that Hurt has signed on to a TV series as a regular as well as the first time he and Close have worked together since The Big Chill. No word on whether or not Hurt's character will extend to the third season though. Damages got the double season renewal back in November.

Even though the show goes back into production this week, it won't return to FX until early 2009.

Damages

Damages is a Golden Globe winning American legal drama television series. The initial season's plotline revolved around a brilliant yet ruthless lawyer (Glenn Close) attempting to win a class-action lawsuit against the former CEO of a corporation (Ted Danson) on behalf of his former workers, by any means necessary. In a case reminiscent of Enron, Arthur Frobisher is accused of insider trading and lying to his employees about the health of his company even as he unloaded his stock.
The main characters are Patty Hewes (Glen Close) and Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne). From Wikipedia:"Patty Hewes – Hard-hitting, successful and charismatic, high-stakes litigator Hewes is the object of fear and envy in a brutal, back-stabbing business. She is determined to protect the little people from the corrupt interests that are crushing them, but does so in a cruel and Machiavellian manner. Ellen Parsons– A bright and sharp law school graduate determined to do good in the world, Parsons has overcome her working-class background to become the new protégée of legal bigshot Patty Hewes. But it's a complicated relationship–not only because Patty demands much of her, but also because Patty is manipulating her for her own reasons."The story is presented in two time periods:the present and the past, which eventually becomes the present.Other events take place in the more distant past (2002 and 1972).The narrative switches back and forth between these time periods. The role of each character is revealed as the season progresses. The rule that is applied in this case is that appearances deceive. The plot has many twists and the story comes to redemptive(?) conclusion. The season finale was good, but it left me a mixed feeling.
Overall,Damages is a series, with engaging plot and very good perfomances (Glen Close won a Golden Globe).Despite positive critical reaction, the show consistently received low ratings. However FX renewed the show for two more seasons of 13 episodes each.
