  • Mickey Rourke plays Russian criminal Vanko, who creates his own battle-suit while incarcerated in a Soviet prison.
  • Whiplash’s suit “shoots devastating, whip-like beams.”

Robert Downey Jr.: 'Iron Man 2 Incredibly Risky'

From Collider.com

"(Iron Man 2 is) incredibly risky and artistic for a big genre movie."

"The set pieces have to do with things that aren't your typical bad guy conflict. The relationships are very complex and hilarious."

"The motivations Tony has and why he turns around and does things has completely to do with his own internal processes... we're kind of trying to tell a story about how a dysfunctional family saves life on Earth as we know it."

Robert Downey Jr. said that he's taking the movie more seriously than any other movie he's ever done, and also that Gary Shandling has joined the cast to play a Senator. Read more!

Three days ago Iron Man 2 began filming and the first set photos were posted on the internet.According to IESB ,on set was veteran actor Garry Shandling. The site reports that Shandling is a Senator that appears in a continuation of the final scene from the first IRON MAN film.

Robert Downey Jr. confirmed ( to the MTV Splash Page) that Demon in a Bottle won't be the storyline of the sequel."As a matter of fact, I think that's probably best saved because it's such its own storyline. We're going for the interim space [between the origin and Demon] which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he's Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero."Last week,Downey spoke to Entertainment Tonight:"(Iron Man 2) is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it's going to be nuts. ... Essentially Iron Man 2 is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It's one thing to say you're Iron Man, it's another thing to be fully ready to do that."
He added that he's been rehearsing with co-star Scarlett Johansson, who plays the Black Widow, and says that "she's in insane shape. She's getting lean and mean."

In other news,Tim Robbins refuted the rumour ( to ReelTalk) that he'll play Howard Stark.
It was rumoured that Gary Oldman will play the role, but that rumour was denied by the actor's manager. Read more!

By Nicole Sperling,hollywoodinsider.ew.com
February 13,2009

Because Emily Blunt's commitment to Twentieth Century Fox and the studio's upcoming Gulliver's Travels movie may prohibit her from costarring in Iron Man 2, Marvel is in discussions with other actresses, most significantly Scarlett Johansson, to take her place, EW has learned exclusively. Blunt's reps are still trying to make both projects work, but Gulliver's is further along, with a start date of April 15. Iron Man 2 still doesn't have a shooting script and a start date has not yet been determined. Read more!
