Smallville-Season 9 Possible?

Going into the fall, it was widely assumed that Smallville would likely be ending at the conclusion of its current eighth season. After all, two of the central characters – Lana Lang and Lex Luthor – were gone, as the actors who portrayed them, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum, had left the series. Plus, eight seasons is a pretty long run for a show focusing on Clark Kent's pre-Superman days, and a number of fans felt the show's quality had dipped drastically by Season 7.
Now however, EW.com's Michael Ausiello says the TV version of the Man of Steel could be sticking around for at least another year. Many feel the series has improved this season, and asked by one such excited fan if the show could return for Season 9, Ausiello replies, "I hear The CW will likely take the don't-fix-if-not-broke approach and keep its Thursday line-up intact next season," implying both Smallville and Supernatural will return for the 2009-2010 season.
The CW may be more keen on keeping Smallville now because The Graysons project they had in development has been scrapped. That potential series – about a young Dick Grayson before he becomes Robin – was perceived as a potential replacement for Smallville. However, with Smallville still performing for the network and The Graysons no longer happening, The CW may be thinking it's best to just stick with their proven series.
Ausiello says that a recent rumor that The CW had already renewed Supernatural for a fifth season is not true. However, considering the very respectable numbers that show is pulling in this season, it would be a surprise if it didn't come back next fall.

Smallville's executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders have written in with a message to the fans at KryptonSite, clearing up some reports that had been made implying that Smallville may be on its way out...
Dear Smallville fans,
As news and rumors swirl around the development of The Graysons for the CW, we have every intention of letting you, our fans, be the first to know the reality. Never have we been so committed to the continuing success of Smallville as we are to seasons 8 and 9. While we are extremely excited to be working hand-in-hand with Wonderland, Warner Bros. and the CW to create the origin story of Dick Grayson, it has never been intended as a replacement for Smallville, as is speculated in some media. The cast, crew, writers and producers are all working full-steam ahead on a story-line for Clark that allows for seasons of further trials and adventures for our favorite hero. As always, we all have you to thank for achieving eight years of this amazing show that Al and Miles created, and we're looking far beyond!

Mark Millar Planning Superman Trilogy

UK, September 3, 2008 - Mark Millar has once again been talking up his own ideas for new Superman movies.
In a cracking interview with G4, the comic writer had this to say on his own vision for the franchise: "I've had this plan for like 10 years of a big three-picture Superman thing - like a big Lord of the Rings-style epic starting it over from scratch again - a seven-hour Superman story, you know? And hopefully one out one year after the other."
Millar added that nothing was confirmed and that any ideas were dependent on the proposed Superman Returns sequel Man of Steel not happening.
However, he also said that he'd been working on the project with a 'director friend' who is 'a big deal', and that if things pan out shooting will start next summer.

Supergirl to appear in one episode of Smallville this season-First Season 8 Trailer

At the Toronto FanExpo this past weekend, Laura Vandervoort confirmed she would appear in a single episode of the eighth and final season of the CW’s Smallville. Television’s Supergirl also made mention that there had been talk of her character once being considered for a spinoff series. She merely said it didn’t pan out without providing any details.
She did admit to being a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan so working alongside Spike, James Marsters, was a thrill. When she was just beginning her career, she wrote series creator Joss Whedon about wanting to audition for the show, something he remembered when they finally met.
Smallville, with new villains and the same old romantic triangles will return September 18.

Warner Bros. Confirms Superman Reboot

Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee's Hulk. Here is what the article says:Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Mr. Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
The article also talks about Warner Bros. adapting other DC properties over the new few years. "By 2011, Mr. Robinov plans for DC Comics to supply the material for up to two of the six to eight tent-pole films he hopes Warner Bros. will have in the pipeline by then," it says. Those projects will likely be about single characters at first, and will be darker much like The Dark Knight:
With "Batman vs. Superman" and "Justice League" stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel's model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. "Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own," Mr. Robinov says.
Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.
The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

Smallville-Maxima cast

The CW's Smallville has landed the second half of its upcoming villainous one-two punch. Charlotte Sullivan, who recently starred in the Canadian series/SOAPnet import MVP, is coming on board as Maxima, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
The arrival of Maxima, who will debut in the season's fourth episode, gives Tom Welling's Clark Kent two new toughies to deal with, coupled with Sam Witwer's imminent introduction as Davis Bloom a.k.a. Doomsday.
Who/what/from where is Maxima? According to the Wiki/Superman canon, she's the oldest child of the royal family of the planet Almerac. (Random anagram alert: Caramel!) Her purpose on Earth is to find a suitable mate — which more than explains why she finds herself in a liplock with not one, but two Smallville gents shortly after her arrival!
Maxima and Superman are genetically compatible, meaning she can give him what no Earth woman (save for Kate Bosworth?) can — children. Her powers historically have included mind control, strength, enhanced stamina and the occasional psionic beam shooting from her peepers.

SDCC 2008:Smallville Panel

In one of the rowdiest panels of the Con, the stars and writers of the CW's Smallville took to the stage on the last day of the convention. Moderated by Joseph Loeb, the panel featured Allison Mack (Chloe), Justin Hartley (Green Arrow), new stars Sam Witwer (Doomsday), Cassiday Freeman (Tess), and showrunners Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. It was a panel full of spoilers, fan appreciation, and a good amount of name plaque requests.
Some of what is upcoming during season 8 can be found after the jump.
First off, they will be holding to the "No Tights" part of the "No Tights. No Flights" rule established at the beginning of the series, which implies that Clark may start flying during the 8th season. Showrunner Darren Swimmer said that Clark was going to start thinking about his destiny in the world and, to that end, would begin working on a secret identity. Showrunner Kelly Souders added that Clark would be using the Daily Planet to active search out those people who needed his help.
Sam Witwer will portray the character Justin Bloom. He will be an extremely nice paramedic who starts having blackouts with dire consequences. Turns out, those blackouts are connected to the appearance of the villain Doomsday. Cassiday Freeman will play Tess, the new girl at Lexcorp now that Luthor is gone. Tess will be Miss Mystery -- no one will know who she is or why she was picked to run the company.
Allison Mack said her character would be struggling with the events of last season at the beginning of this one. This includes tidying up some dangling strings with Jimmy Olsen and breaking strings with Clark to be more independent. There is also a chance that Chloe will be using her powers in future episodes. Mack enjoys the fact that she is the ultimate sidekick, the Gal Friday, to Clark.
Now that Just Hartley will be a regular cast member this season there will be more exploration of his Green Arrow and Oliver Queen characters. Hartley enjoys playing both Queen and Arrow and likes being the lone vigilante and the leader of the Smallville version of the Justice League.
Other items discussed during the panel:
* During the audience Q&A someone asked Allison how it was kissing star Tom Welling. Her response: "What do you think?"
* While not returning this season, the door is always open for Michael Rosenbaum and Sam Jones III to return as Lex Luthor and Pete Ross.
* The season premiere will feature an appearance by the Justice League. Later in the season DC Comics scribe Geoff Johns will be writing an episode that will introduce the Legion of Super-Heroes. According to Darren Swimmer there will be much more use of DC characters and mythology this season.
* Asked about the difference between Luthor and new villain Doomsday, Darren stated Lex was smart, but couldn't kill Clark.
* Allison may direct an episode of Smallville this season. Actually, after shaking hands with showrunner Todd Slavkin during the panel, it may be a done deal.
* The panel was asked what shows they would like to crossover with. The natural response from all was Supernatural. Across the panel: Kelly Souders said Heroes; Cassiday suggested either American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance; Sam suggested the original Knight Rider because Doomsday could kick Michael Knight's butt; Justin said The West Wing since he could say to the President,"Don' worry, Prez. We got this."; Darren mentioned The Office.
* For some reason many in the audience were asking for the panel members' name plaques. Eventually, this became a running joke, with Sam asking Tom for his placard.
* The last question of the session came from someone dressed as Batman. He asked when they were going to bring him onto Smallville, then proceeded to ask for Cassiday's name card.

Smallville - Justice League:The Return

When Clark Kent goes missing, who ya gonna call? Why, the Justice League of course. TV Guide is reporting that Smallville's eighth season will feature the return of the Smallville version of the team, first formed in the Season 6 episode "Justice."
As previously reported, Justin Hartley will have a regular role in Season 8, returning as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The season will begin with the follow up to the events of the Season 7 finale, in which Clark went missing, as Green Arrow gathers a group of super powered pals to find him. In Season 6, the League was made up of the Smallville incarnations of Clark, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Impulse and Cyborg. Green Arrow's new team will be a bit different – Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) is back, but this time he and Green Arrow are joined by Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris) and Black Canary (Alaina Huffman). Both Manhunter and Canary have appeared on Smallville before, but not with the proto-Justice League.
For the new season, Smallville will have a large new group of showrunners – Returning writers Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, who all have been promoted following the departure of Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Souders tells TV Guide Season 8's theme is "double identities" and that, "It's about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life." It seems at least one important part of Clark's destiny will take shape. TV Guide says this season he takes a job at the Daily Planet, working across the desk from Lois Lane (Erica Durance).

Smallville: Big Plans for Green Arrow
- With the loss of Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) next season, and a reduced role for Lana Lang (Kristen Kreuk), Smallville is facing some obstacles going into its eighth season. Now though, it seems the producers have come up with a strong way for many fans to maintain interest in the series – more Green Arrow.
Eonline's Kristin Dos Santos is reporting that Justin Hartley will be back as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow next season, and this time it's as a series regular. Hartley first appeared in Season 6, in a recurring role that struck a chord with many fans. During Season 7 though, he only made one guest appearance, but obviously we'll be seeing a lot more of him in Season 8.
Dos Santos says the CW informs her that, "Justin's storyline will focus on Oliver's past and where he comes from as opposed to his Green alter ego." Dos Santos also reports that Kreuk is likely going to appear in six or seven episodes next season, but the exact number is still being worked out.
It also seems that the two new villains have yet to be cast, though we have a name for the previously unspecific female villain – Tess. As for Doomsday, it seems his Smallville incarnation will have an alter ego named Davis Bloome. Somehow we don't see the comic book version of Doomsday answering to that name, so no doubt some big changes are in store for the character.

Smallville: Is Chloe in or out for Season 8?
Looks like Clark Kent will at least have one of his original pals around next season, as Allison Mack has signed a new deal to return to Smallville for Season 8 in her role as Chloe Sullivan. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, who first broke the news of the tense contract negotiations between Warner Bros. and Mack, now is reporting that a deal was just signed earlier today.
The situation with Mack was clearly a dicey one – Yesterday, The CW put out their press release for the next TV season, and Mack's name was notably absent from the Smallville listing. But with Kristin Kreuk ("Lana Lang") taking on a considerably reduced role and Michael Rosenbaum ("Lex Luthor") leaving the show completely, Mack because an important component for Smallville to maintain any connection to its original days, which Ausiello says Mack's representatives were using to leverage a better deal for the actress.

Smallville - Rosenbaum out, Doomsday in
We knew it was coming. At the end of February 2007,Smallville actor,Michael Rosenbaum,announced his intentions of leaving the show at the end of the 2007-2008 season in order to tackle new projects. For the past year, fans (I include myself here) hoped that the actor would change his mind. How can Smallville be, well, Smallville without Lex Luthor? Things looked grim when the actor reminded us last February that he was done with the show, come the Season 7 finale. And today, fans around the world must come to the realization that Rosenbaum wasn't joking: he really is leaving the show "to start the next chapter of my life and career," he says in a joint statement with The CW.
In his letter to Smallville fans, Rosenbaum thanks them for their support and making the show a success. He hopes that fans will follow his "career through [his] hair growth period and beyond." The actor, who is excited about the future, also takes time to thank the people involved with making the show.
In the joint statement, The CW, along with the executive producers, thanks the actor for his great work in the past season. The network also reveals what's in store villain-wise for next season.
Season 8 will introduce two new villains. One is the famous Doomsday, the only DC Comics character to have killed Superman. The second one is an unnamed female villain who is said, in the statement, to "be familiar to many fans." The statement also says that she "will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could." Could she be the person who'll win Clark's heart since Lana will be gone (Kristin Kreuk is said to appear in very few episodes next season)?
Michael Rosenbaum fans must watch the next two episodes as they will be Lex-heavy. The May 15 finale will be very important in Lex's quest to find The Traveler. Let's just hint that Lex will be traveling to the Arctic.
