Smallville-Season 9 Possible?

Going into the fall, it was widely assumed that Smallville would likely be ending at the conclusion of its current eighth season. After all, two of the central characters – Lana Lang and Lex Luthor – were gone, as the actors who portrayed them, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum, had left the series. Plus, eight seasons is a pretty long run for a show focusing on Clark Kent's pre-Superman days, and a number of fans felt the show's quality had dipped drastically by Season 7.
Now however, EW.com's Michael Ausiello says the TV version of the Man of Steel could be sticking around for at least another year. Many feel the series has improved this season, and asked by one such excited fan if the show could return for Season 9, Ausiello replies, "I hear The CW will likely take the don't-fix-if-not-broke approach and keep its Thursday line-up intact next season," implying both Smallville and Supernatural will return for the 2009-2010 season.
The CW may be more keen on keeping Smallville now because The Graysons project they had in development has been scrapped. That potential series – about a young Dick Grayson before he becomes Robin – was perceived as a potential replacement for Smallville. However, with Smallville still performing for the network and The Graysons no longer happening, The CW may be thinking it's best to just stick with their proven series.
Ausiello says that a recent rumor that The CW had already renewed Supernatural for a fifth season is not true. However, considering the very respectable numbers that show is pulling in this season, it would be a surprise if it didn't come back next fall.

Supergirl to appear in one episode of Smallville this season-First Season 8 Trailer

At the Toronto FanExpo this past weekend, Laura Vandervoort confirmed she would appear in a single episode of the eighth and final season of the CW’s Smallville. Television’s Supergirl also made mention that there had been talk of her character once being considered for a spinoff series. She merely said it didn’t pan out without providing any details.
She did admit to being a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan so working alongside Spike, James Marsters, was a thrill. When she was just beginning her career, she wrote series creator Joss Whedon about wanting to audition for the show, something he remembered when they finally met.
Smallville, with new villains and the same old romantic triangles will return September 18.

Smallville-Maxima cast

The CW's Smallville has landed the second half of its upcoming villainous one-two punch. Charlotte Sullivan, who recently starred in the Canadian series/SOAPnet import MVP, is coming on board as Maxima, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
The arrival of Maxima, who will debut in the season's fourth episode, gives Tom Welling's Clark Kent two new toughies to deal with, coupled with Sam Witwer's imminent introduction as Davis Bloom a.k.a. Doomsday.
Who/what/from where is Maxima? According to the Wiki/Superman canon, she's the oldest child of the royal family of the planet Almerac. (Random anagram alert: Caramel!) Her purpose on Earth is to find a suitable mate — which more than explains why she finds herself in a liplock with not one, but two Smallville gents shortly after her arrival!
Maxima and Superman are genetically compatible, meaning she can give him what no Earth woman (save for Kate Bosworth?) can — children. Her powers historically have included mind control, strength, enhanced stamina and the occasional psionic beam shooting from her peepers.

SDCC 2008:Smallville Panel

In one of the rowdiest panels of the Con, the stars and writers of the CW's Smallville took to the stage on the last day of the convention. Moderated by Joseph Loeb, the panel featured Allison Mack (Chloe), Justin Hartley (Green Arrow), new stars Sam Witwer (Doomsday), Cassiday Freeman (Tess), and showrunners Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. It was a panel full of spoilers, fan appreciation, and a good amount of name plaque requests.
Some of what is upcoming during season 8 can be found after the jump.
First off, they will be holding to the "No Tights" part of the "No Tights. No Flights" rule established at the beginning of the series, which implies that Clark may start flying during the 8th season. Showrunner Darren Swimmer said that Clark was going to start thinking about his destiny in the world and, to that end, would begin working on a secret identity. Showrunner Kelly Souders added that Clark would be using the Daily Planet to active search out those people who needed his help.
Sam Witwer will portray the character Justin Bloom. He will be an extremely nice paramedic who starts having blackouts with dire consequences. Turns out, those blackouts are connected to the appearance of the villain Doomsday. Cassiday Freeman will play Tess, the new girl at Lexcorp now that Luthor is gone. Tess will be Miss Mystery -- no one will know who she is or why she was picked to run the company.
Allison Mack said her character would be struggling with the events of last season at the beginning of this one. This includes tidying up some dangling strings with Jimmy Olsen and breaking strings with Clark to be more independent. There is also a chance that Chloe will be using her powers in future episodes. Mack enjoys the fact that she is the ultimate sidekick, the Gal Friday, to Clark.
Now that Just Hartley will be a regular cast member this season there will be more exploration of his Green Arrow and Oliver Queen characters. Hartley enjoys playing both Queen and Arrow and likes being the lone vigilante and the leader of the Smallville version of the Justice League.
Other items discussed during the panel:
* During the audience Q&A someone asked Allison how it was kissing star Tom Welling. Her response: "What do you think?"
* While not returning this season, the door is always open for Michael Rosenbaum and Sam Jones III to return as Lex Luthor and Pete Ross.
* The season premiere will feature an appearance by the Justice League. Later in the season DC Comics scribe Geoff Johns will be writing an episode that will introduce the Legion of Super-Heroes. According to Darren Swimmer there will be much more use of DC characters and mythology this season.
* Asked about the difference between Luthor and new villain Doomsday, Darren stated Lex was smart, but couldn't kill Clark.
* Allison may direct an episode of Smallville this season. Actually, after shaking hands with showrunner Todd Slavkin during the panel, it may be a done deal.
* The panel was asked what shows they would like to crossover with. The natural response from all was Supernatural. Across the panel: Kelly Souders said Heroes; Cassiday suggested either American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance; Sam suggested the original Knight Rider because Doomsday could kick Michael Knight's butt; Justin said The West Wing since he could say to the President,"Don' worry, Prez. We got this."; Darren mentioned The Office.
* For some reason many in the audience were asking for the panel members' name plaques. Eventually, this became a running joke, with Sam asking Tom for his placard.
* The last question of the session came from someone dressed as Batman. He asked when they were going to bring him onto Smallville, then proceeded to ask for Cassiday's name card.

Smallville - Justice League:The Return

When Clark Kent goes missing, who ya gonna call? Why, the Justice League of course. TV Guide is reporting that Smallville's eighth season will feature the return of the Smallville version of the team, first formed in the Season 6 episode "Justice."
As previously reported, Justin Hartley will have a regular role in Season 8, returning as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The season will begin with the follow up to the events of the Season 7 finale, in which Clark went missing, as Green Arrow gathers a group of super powered pals to find him. In Season 6, the League was made up of the Smallville incarnations of Clark, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Impulse and Cyborg. Green Arrow's new team will be a bit different – Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) is back, but this time he and Green Arrow are joined by Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris) and Black Canary (Alaina Huffman). Both Manhunter and Canary have appeared on Smallville before, but not with the proto-Justice League.
For the new season, Smallville will have a large new group of showrunners – Returning writers Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, who all have been promoted following the departure of Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Souders tells TV Guide Season 8's theme is "double identities" and that, "It's about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life." It seems at least one important part of Clark's destiny will take shape. TV Guide says this season he takes a job at the Daily Planet, working across the desk from Lois Lane (Erica Durance).

Smallville: Big Plans for Green Arrow
- With the loss of Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) next season, and a reduced role for Lana Lang (Kristen Kreuk), Smallville is facing some obstacles going into its eighth season. Now though, it seems the producers have come up with a strong way for many fans to maintain interest in the series – more Green Arrow.
Eonline's Kristin Dos Santos is reporting that Justin Hartley will be back as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow next season, and this time it's as a series regular. Hartley first appeared in Season 6, in a recurring role that struck a chord with many fans. During Season 7 though, he only made one guest appearance, but obviously we'll be seeing a lot more of him in Season 8.
Dos Santos says the CW informs her that, "Justin's storyline will focus on Oliver's past and where he comes from as opposed to his Green alter ego." Dos Santos also reports that Kreuk is likely going to appear in six or seven episodes next season, but the exact number is still being worked out.
It also seems that the two new villains have yet to be cast, though we have a name for the previously unspecific female villain – Tess. As for Doomsday, it seems his Smallville incarnation will have an alter ego named Davis Bloome. Somehow we don't see the comic book version of Doomsday answering to that name, so no doubt some big changes are in store for the character.
