'Robocop' delayed?

According to RiskyBizBlog Darren Aronofsky could shoot supernatural horror 'Black Swan' later this year (Natalie Portman is already cast in the lead), which would push production on Robocop back to mid-2010. The delay could still conceivably see the film hit screens in 2011 ,as previously planned.
However, it's also making MGM nervous, with the studio apparently "quietly putting out feelers for other directors who could come on to Robocop in case the timing doesn't work out."

Robert Rodriguez to co-direct 'Machete' and produce 'Predators'

'Machete' was one of the fake trailers in Grindhouse (2007).According to Variety, Robert Rodriguez has written a script for a 'Machete' feature.Danny Trejo will play (again) the blade- wielding antihero.Rodriguez will direct the film (his first non-studio film since 'El Mariachi' (1992)) with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor.Production is expected to start this June in Austin.

'Machete' isn't the only Robert Rodriguez is working on.He's also writing a scipt for 'Predators', a reboot to the well-known series, which started in 1987 (with the original movie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger).He'll produce but he'll not direct.20th Century Fox has set a July 7, 2010 release date for 'Predators.' Rodriguez said (to aintitcool.com) that the name Predators was an homage to James Cameron's Aliens -- which he felt was a "worthy follow-up to a classic."

He's also directing his script 'Nerveracker' (a futuristic action thriller) for Dimension Films,set to be released in 2010.The 'Barbarella' remake, the new 'Red Sonja' are not scheduled to be produced and the status of 'Sin City 2' is unclear.

Wachovski Bros. to Direct New Superman? UPDATED

According to James McTeigue,V for Vendetta director and frequent Wachovski Bros. collaborator,it's possible.According to AICN,McTeigue,while talking about Ninja Assassin in a tv interview,mentioned that if Warner Bros. doesn't let the Wachowski Bros. go with Plastic Man as their next movie,then they could direct the movie that will reboot (again) the franchise.Nothing is certain about their involvement,but according to McTeigue it is certain that Bryan Singer will not direct the next Superman movie.

UPDATE-According to Slashfilm,the AICN report is not true.The site also reports that it was sent a link to a password protected page on the Legendary Pictures website that lists the title of the sequel/reboot to be Superman Unleashed.However,it's not confirmed that this will be the title of the movie. Casino Royale Review

New Bond in town!Four years after Die Another Day,the last movie with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond ,the successfull franchise returns ,but this time to the beginning.To the beginning of Bond as a 00 agent.

This movie may be regarded as a reboot to the series.Daniel Craig takes the lead role,previously portrayed by Sean Connery.Roger Moore,George Lazenby,Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan (maybe the best Bond,judging from the 007 movies I’ve seen).This choice caused a lot of controversy from the first moment it was announced. Some fans were against this choice and some said that they would even boycott the movie.To be honest,I didn’t like Craig as a new Bond.I definitely preferred P.Brosnan.When you see the movie,at first, the impression is mixed.However,as the movie progresses Craig proves that all the skepticism about him was wrong.His portrayal of Bond is actually very good.A Bond certainly different from the previous movies.



The movie takes a more realistic,more “raw” path.Bond is more human than before,more violent and to some point emotional.All this change is justified from the fact that,as said before,we see the early days of Bond.
The actors that stand out in Casino Royale are Daniel Craig and from the women side,Eva Green.One strong point of the movie are its well-written lines.This fact helps the actors,mainly Craig , in their performances.Eva Green is something more than a simple Bond girl,she’s the woman J.Bond falls for.Her performance is also exceptional.
Two other positive things are the directing and the intensity of some scenes(for example the scene of the poker game against Le Chiffre in Casino Royale).

However,there are some flaws.First flaw ,the villain:Mads Mikkelsen as Le Chiffre is not bad but he’s just too bland.C.Murino’s character (Solange ) is understated,”decorative” maybe and some action scenes last too long.

Casino Royale is very good movie and so is Daniel Craig,despite the doubts about him.This time the “formula” worked,but will it work next time?The fact that when you see Craig you may still have second thoughts about him as Bond, is it a drawback?(it seems that it is decided that D.Craig will reprise his role in Bond 22 as ign.com reports).

UPDATE 11/2008:A few days ago,i watched Casino Royale again (i watched the Blu-Ray,great transfer).I have to say that,while my opinion hasn't changed,i liked the movie even more.It's entertaining,action-packed,yet complex and moving.After some point,it's a tragic love story.It's probably the best Bond movie that i've seen.As for the flaws i mentioned in my original review,i think that Mads Mikkelsen is actually very good as the villain and the chase scenes are one of the pros of the movie.I don't have second thoughts for Daniel Craig anymore.He's very good as Bond and the reviews for Quantum of Solace say the same thing for his perfomance in it too.Is he the best Bond?He's certainly different from the previous ones.

Tom Rothman Talks 'Daredevil' Reboot

Early last month, Variety published a rather scathing look at 20th Century Fox's summer receipts and mentioned the studio was digging through its collection of superheroes with an eye on getting some of that blockbuster mojo back. It wasn't surprising to see more X-Men spin-offs and sequels being talked about -- but what did raise a few eyebrows was the inclusion of Daredevil. The Man with No Fear had a pretty disastrous debut in 2003, and his girlfriend/nemesis Elektra fared even worse.

IESB caught up with Fox's co-chairman, Tom Rothman, and pressed him on the subject of revisiting Daredevil. It's more than a passing fancy in the trades -- Fox is thinking "very seriously" of a reboot. Says Rothman: "I think that the thing the Hulk showed, although it did what it did, is that it is possible that if you really do it right the audience will give you a second chance. That it is possible. And I think that you see that when they did Batman Begins, the first Nolan movie, that you can have made some mistakes along the way or movies that the audience wasn't that crazy about and then given the proper amount of time and the right creative vision behind it, you can, to use your word, reboot."

And would they go the dark and gritty route of The Dark Knight, which is becoming the go-to style for just about every comic book property? "Would it be as dark? I don't know because what it really needs is, it needs a visionary at the level that Chris Nolan was. It needs someone, it needs a director, honestly, who has a genuine vision. What we wouldn't do is just do it for the sake of doing it. Right? What we try to do is to get a creative engine for it, that really had a great vision for it, that's what we would look for."

In all honesty, a "real world" approach would work extremely well with Daredevil -- certainly, he has more believable villains than Batman. And being owned by Fox, he won't be able to participate in all the crossover fun that Marvel Studios is doing, so you might as well keep him in his own Hell's Kitchen. For me, the question isn't whether the character deserves another shot (and I think he does), it's whether Fox has learned from its micro-managing past, and could truly let someone have their "great vision" in a comic book film. Comic Franchises For Fox?X-Men spin-offs and Daredevil reboot

Variety has let slip some interesting gossip regarding Fox's plans for future superhero movies.

In an artcle about the studio's less than-profitable summer line-up, it reveals that Fox has decided to look into the remaining comic book characters they have the rights to in an effort to replicate their rival's success.

Aparently one idea is a Young X-Men project that, similar to the animated series X-Men: Evolution, will follow the main characters as teenagers.

A second idea is a spin-off based around Deadpool -- the wisecracking mercenary from the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which Fox will release next summer) to be played by Ryan Reynolds.

The final possibility mentioned by the trade mag is a reboot of the Daredevil franchise, which ground to a halt after only one instalment when Ben Affleck played the blind superhero back in 2003.

Warner Bros. Confirms Superman Reboot

Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee's Hulk. Here is what the article says:

Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Mr. Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

The article also talks about Warner Bros. adapting other DC properties over the new few years. "By 2011, Mr. Robinov plans for DC Comics to supply the material for up to two of the six to eight tent-pole films he hopes Warner Bros. will have in the pipeline by then," it says. Those projects will likely be about single characters at first, and will be darker much like The Dark Knight:

With "Batman vs. Superman" and "Justice League" stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel's model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. "Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own," Mr. Robinov says.

Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.
