Producers tacking on an additional hour to both remaining seasons in order to make up for lost Lost.

This season's writers' strike certainly wreaked havoc on television fans' expectations and schedules. Shortened seasons, unusual breaks between new episodes, and new shows getting relaunched next season after false starts are just some of the effects of the massive pencil dropping by Hollywood scribes.
But--with apologies to all other television shows and their respective fans--no single program had more at stake than ABC's Lost. The show has produced some of television's most diehard fans who clamor for every single second of the drama.

The eight-episode back half of the fourth season was in the crosshairs of the strike, and when all was said and done and writers went back to work, producers managed to lose only three hours of Lost and promised a five-episode run. More recently, producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse managed to convince ABC that they needed to add an additional hour to this season (in the form of a two-hour final episode), bringing the tally to 14 hours of Lost--only two short of the initial 16 planned.

Now it looks like those two hours will be made up after all. Lost is adding on an additional hour to the show's two remaining seasons, bringing the total up to 17 apiece, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"We were supposed to do 16-16-16," Lindelof told the Reporter, referring to the number of episodes agreed upon for each of the last three seasons. "But we ended up doing 14 this season, so we owe two."
