20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Australia, Baz Luhrmann's first film since Moulin Rouge!.
From Empire:My word, this is gorgeous. You could rip any frame from this teaser and slap it on your wall. The twilight haze over everything, the permanent tinge of dust, the elegant explosions, the unending scenery – it's all a little bit Terrence Malick, a teeny bit Wong Kar Wai (we're thinking In The Mood For Love) and a lot David Lean. Beautiful.
The trailer doesn't focus much on the details of the story, being simply a teaser, but the film, set against the backdrop of World War II, tells of an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits an enormous Australian ranch. When her land is threatened by cattle barons, she calls in the help of a hunky cattle driver (Hugh Jackman) to save the day. Kissy-face ensues.
